The ‘Energise’ project - Park Grange Care Home in Barnsley
Qdos Creates has been working with residents and day- care referrals at Park Grange Care Home in Barnsley through the ‘Energise’ project. The aims of the sessions were to offer participants a chance to undertake physical activity through mobilising and stretching activities and develop their creativity with a variety of tasks and reminiscence topics.
The main focus of the workshops was to build relationships between participants and give them a much-needed outlet for self-expression. Some sessions were supported by staff and resources from Cannon Hall Museum in Cawthorne, Barnsley. These were used to unlock memories and acted as a catalyst for conversation between participants and workshop leaders.
Many of the participants who suffer with dementia and related illnesses benefited greatly from the stimulation generated from different tasks and the reminiscence elements. Family members also found the sessions an enjoyable way to maintain and build relationships with their loved ones.
Qdos Creates is hoping to expand its work in this area and is currently obtaining funding to build on work with this group.
