St Thomas’s Church, Worsbrough

St Thomas Community Project

As part of the celebrations to mark its 150th anniversary, St Thomas’s Church in Worsbrough Dale, Barnsley, commissioned Qdos to create The Church on The Hill, a performance with local school-children.

Led by Qdos workers Katrina Whale and Katy Marsh, in collaboration with local historian Jayne Dowle, the performance traced the history of the church through movement, music and stories. From buildings and benefactors to street games and songs, the performance will reflect the role of the church as a lynchpin of the village.

“This was a really exciting project for Qdos,” said General Manager Katrina Whale. “There were so many rich and interesting stories connected to the church and to the village, and bringing them alive through dance was a really interesting challenge for us.”

Artistic Director Anjie Taylor adds: “It’s was a real pleasure to do this project as I grew up in this area. My grandparents were married in the church, and I was christened there, so there was a real personal connection. I was thrilled to be involved with the village again. It brought back a lot of happy memories.”

Schools that participated were: Bank End Primary, The Edmunds Primary, Ward Green Primary, and Worsbrough Common Primary.
