Westmeads Extra Care Home in Royston

Westmeads

Through its community strand Qdos Creates has been delivering exciting and innovative workshops with the over-60s in Royston.

The sessions aimed to enhance a feeling of well-being and unlock creative potential by using story and poetry reading and writing, singing and drama games to build group confidence and trust.

One of the many successes of the project was creating a song and poetry around the theme of ‘Growing Old Disgracefully’. This was performed in Asda supermarket in Barnsley where many members of the public joined in the party! It was also a great chance for the group to show what they had achieved.

The group has developed into a weekly activity for those living in Westmeads Extra Care Home. Participants report that it has been one of the best opportunities they have to interact socially and develop individual talents and interests. Due to this success more long-term funding is being sought so the project can continue to develop.

The project has been extremely successful and beneficial. Many participants and carers have noticed a great change in physicality and well-being.
